Provo is a city in Utah and the county seat of Utah County, located about 50 miles south of Salt Lake City along the Wasatch Front. It lies between the cities of Orem to the north and Springville to the south. It is perhaps best-known as home of Brigham Young University.
Settled in 1849 by 33 families from Salt Lake City, Provo has grown to a population of 105,166 as of the 2000 Census, making it the third-largest city in the state. A 2005 U.S. Census Bureau estimate placed its population at 113,459[1], which would make it the second-largest city in Utah, barely surpassing West Valley City. The Provo-Orem Metropolitan Area, consisting of Utah County has 412,361 residents.
The site was named Fort Utah by the Mormon settlers, but re-named Provo in 1850 for Étienne Provost, an early French-Canadian trapper who arrived in the region in 1825.

Mayor Ralph Becker is proposing a compromise on electronic billboards. They would be OK in manufacturing zones and along large commercial corridors. But if a company wanted one, it would have to take down one of its existing traditional billboards so there would be no net increase.
If the City Council greenlights the e-billboard proposal — a brief...

But then, in another post 12 hours later, he wrote a long missive explaining he was still facing deportation and that he believed an immigration judge wouldn’t deport him based on a sermon he was watching at Ministerios Vida Nueva.

The American Civil Liberties Union on Monday called for the Duchesne County Attorney to investigate how two Roosevelt police officers used pepper spray on football fans dancing the Haka.
The ACLU said it wanted an independent investigation because it was unsatisfied with the review by the Roosevelt police. Sandy police are searching for a woman and her 13-year-old son who went missing late last week while driving through Spanish Fork Canyon.

Orem • Right now, he is the Frasier Crane of Utah mayors.
Like the TV sitcom’s beloved psychiatrist, he is listening — to folks for and against a planned library expansion, to ideas for turning around a troubled fiber-optic network, to notions about how to boost business in a bruised economy, to anyone who has anything to say about how to improve Orem.
In fact, James T. Evans’ listening tour started soon after the City Council named him mayor. During the yuletide lighting at City Hall, a woman b...

Vernon • They have complex social structures, multi-layered vocabularies and are shrewd predators.
Bill Keebler has taught himself a lot about coyotes. And, for a price, the Tooele County outfitter will guide would-be coyote sport hunters to the hard-to-find animals that legally can be shot year-round.
The best time for hunting coyotes is winter, Keebler said. Their coats are thicker for hunters seeking a trophy. And because food is more scarce, the normally nocturnal animals spend more dayligh...
